Empowering Drivers. Enhancing Safety.

Uganda Professional Drivers’ Network (UPDN) delivers a comprehensive suite of programs and services designed to professionalize drivers, improve road safety, promote driver health, and support the sustainability of Uganda’s transport sector.

1. Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

We offer 1–3 day CPD training sessions for practicing professional drivers. These sessions focus on upgrading driving skills, road safety awareness, and professional conduct. Certified trainers facilitate practical and classroom-based learning, helping drivers meet national standards.

2. Capacity Building Programs

Our capacity-building initiatives extend to:

  • Drivers’ Associations: Training in corporate governance, strategy, and project management.

  • Driving Schools: Support with quality assurance, safety standards, and curriculum improvement.

  • Driver Employers: Training in professional driver management and fleet safety best practices.

3. Advocacy & Policy Engagement

UPDN actively advocates for stronger policies, regulations, and systems to support driver welfare and road safety. We engage government institutions, workplaces, and industry stakeholders to push for reforms that create safer roads and better livelihoods—especially for women and youth.

4. Networking & Partnerships

We provide a national platform that unites driver leaders, driving schools, transport employers, and policymakers. Through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and stakeholder events, we coordinate efforts for sustainable driver welfare and harmonized national programs.

5. Driver Health & Livelihood Programs

Recognizing the critical link between health and road safety, we coordinate and support health and wellness campaigns targeting practicing drivers. This includes HIV/AIDS awareness, mental health support, and occupational safety education.

6. Road Crash Investigation & Community Awareness

We conduct road crash investigations to identify and address risk factors. We also run community road safety awareness campaigns to promote responsible road usage and reduce accidents at grassroots levels.

7. Research & Knowledge Management

UPDN develops, reviews, and shares up-to-date resources on road safety, transport industry practices, and driver health. Our data-driven approach ensures informed decision-making for policy development and stakeholder engagement.
